Integration protects emerging markets
Article Abstract:
Financial integration would help the emerging markets deal with the financial crisis better than the tight-money approach and the easy-money approaches that are being recommended by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, respectively. Two steps are involved in implementing the financial integration approach, namely, the unification of monetary policies and the ending of protectionism in the financial sector. Eliminating the central banks is another better way to deal with the financial crisis.

Executives take the offensive as outlook improves; regional worries have spawned more restructuring moves and efforts to tap new markets
Article Abstract:
A survey by Grassroots Research of 58 managers at mostly local medium-sized to large firms in nine Asian countries revealed that there is more optimism about the future and that they are more willing to pursue restructuring activities and search for new markets. Even though the Apr 1999 survey is relatively small sample, it indicates that managers are becoming more amenable to the use of new strategies in the effort to reverse the economic decline.
