Furniture and furnishings in Germany
Article Abstract:
In 1995, German production of furniture dropped 2% to 34.2 billion Deutsche Marks (DM), with a further 4% drop forecast for 1996. Specialist trade sales also fell to DM44 billion. Similarly, production of household furnishings fell by around 5% to DM5.6 billion in 1995, with sales down to DM22 billion. An overview of both markets is given, including details of foreign trade, market features, forecasts and an extensive statistical appendix.

In 1996, French output of furniture fell 2% to 52.6 French Francs (FFr), with exports up to FFr10.2 billion and imports of FFr16.8 billion. Spending on furniture and furnishings is estimated to have fallen by 3-4%. Production and consumption of floor coverings were both down 5% and 6% respectively. An overview of market trends is given, including details of production, consumption, foreign trade, and forecasts for the future.
