Total turnover in the Dutch furniture industry fell by around 2% in 1993, with a particular decline in the wooden furniture sector. Production of wooden furniture was valued at 2,075.8 million florints, with the most important product group being seating. Production of metal furniture was worth 999.4 million florints, with office furniture accounting for 41% of the total. Imports were valued at 2,329.1 million florints, with exports at 1,377.1 million florints.

The French furniture industry covered 750 companies employing 20 workers or more and a workforce of 77,000 in 1993. The total domestic furniture market is estimated at 70 billion French francs at retail prices, with the institutional market at 20 billion French francs. Production and consumption started to revive in 1994, although the market will not really recover until the fortunes of the construction industry improve.

Apparent consumption of furniture and furnishings in Belgium fell by 6% in 1993 to 84.2 billion Belgian francs, with sales falling 8.2% in nominal value terms in the period 1990-1993. The largest sector of the furniture industry is wooden and upholstered furniture, where manufacturers' sales fell 1.6% and exports fell 2%. Output in the metal furniture sector fell 8.5%, while exports rose 36% and imports rose almost 50%.
