The history of GEEs gradually deepening involvement with the country is traced, from its beginnings as a seller of medical and power plant equipment to a now sprawling industry whose software and outsourcing services employ over 19,000 people. The challenges facing the company and its impact on the Indian market are also discussed.

India's pharmaceutical companies, such as Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., are taking pharmaceutical business in the United States to court and are winning, in order to gain a market in generic drugs. Patents valued at $60 billion will expire in the United States during the next 5 years, and pharmaceutical companies in India are finding loopholes, so that they can win lawsuits.
