GKN gets a lift from North America

GKN PLC reported an improvement of 10% in its profits for the first-half of 1999. The British-based company also posted sales growth of 22% for the period. The North American market represented a major market for GKN. The performance of GKN's industrial services and automotive arms in North America were critical to the group's financial growth. CK Chow, the CEO of GKN, said that both divisions will expand in the region.

Shares in Trafficmaster jump 24% on Mannesmann deal, profit leap

Trafficmaster PLC and Mannesmann AG have signed a deal to jointly market their traffic-information services to European car manufacturers and GSM-network operators. The deal led to a 24% increase in the company's shares in London. Trafficmaster has given Mannesmann's Autocom division the option to acquire 49% of Trafficmaster's Trafficmaster GmbH unit. The deal is part of Trafficmaster's expansion into Europe.
