Gallaher Group PLC has appointed Nigel Northridge to be its new chief executive officer, replacing outgoing CEO and chairman Peter Wilson. The group also posted an increase of 44% in its 1999 first-half pretax profits to 184.7 million pounds (282.3 million euros).

NTL narrows loss; CEO to quit

NTL Inc. posted a lower net loss for the 2003 second quarter. In addition, the company's chief executive, Barclay Knapp, will resign from his post. NTL posted a 159 million pounds net loss for the period, compared to 284.8 million pounds in the same 2002 period.

BAT's pretax profit more than doubled in the first quarter

British American Tobacco PLC said its 2001 first-quarter pretax profits more than doubled over the same 2000 period. The company posted quarterly pretax profits of 463 million pounds (744 million euros).
