Gallic charm
Article Abstract:
DaimlerChrysler is no longer seeking to acquire a major stake in Nissan, but Renault continues to be interested. DaimlerChrysler is concerned about Nissan's debt level, while Renault would gain access to the US market through Nissan. Nissan also has strengths in northern Europe, where Renault tends to be weak. The Japanese government could help in order to prevent a major bankruptcy. DaimlerChrysler is still interested in a deal with an automobile producer from Asia, and Mitsubishi is a possibility.
