Gallucci fends off criticism of Pyongyang nuclear pact
Article Abstract:
Asst. Sec. of State Robert Gallucci was able to defend his co-authored nuclear agreement with North Korea during recent Congressional hearings. Under the Gallucci-brokered agreement, North Korea will scuttle its nuclear program in exchange for two 1,000 megawatt nuclear power reactors to be supplied by a US-led consortium. Critics noted that the North Korean's have threatened not to honor the agreement if the reactors will be supplied by South Korea. In addition, they also stated that the US will not be able to determine whether the Koreans did actually dismantle their program until after five years.

Pyongyang blithely ignores half of pact...
Article Abstract:
The Clinton administration seems to have succeeded in its effort to convince North Korea to discontinue its nuclear weapons development program. However, North Korea has also shown nothing but contempt for its obligation to conduct a meaningful dialogue with South Korea. The US has already promised Pyongyang diplomatic recognition, trade links and economic and technical aid but it should also consider whether it should fulfill this promise if it would only serve to perpetuate the political division of the Korean peninsula.

U.S. is wrong to feed Pyongyang's hunger for aid
Article Abstract:
The US government made a mistake in providing North Korea with relief aid. It has increased its aid despite Japan and South Korea's decision to stop giving food aid. North Korea has not appreciated the donations given by other countries. It has neglected its duty to feed its people due to the generosity shown by the US. Pyongyang has focused its efforts towards the build-up and strengthening of its military power.
