Around 90% of the UK population now gambles, since the introduction of the National Lottery, compared to 70% prior to its launch. Around 71% of the population gambles on the National Lottery, although it is most popular among the C2 and 20-24 year old groups. The UK market for stake money is estimated at 17 billion pounds sterling for 1994, compared to 15.5 billion pounds in 1993. An overview of the gambling options available are given, along with market data, supply structure, advertising, consumer profile and prospects for the future.

In order to cope aggressively with competitive changes, some of the county's top pachinko manufacturers are adopting efficient management strategies. Sankyo, for instance, is currently working to improve its strategic decision-making capacity. The company is also waging efforts to enhance in agility and flexibility in industrial development.
