Gandhi saves bungalows

Indian National Congress party's president Sonia Gandhi pressurized the Indian Prime Minister's office to issue an all important dictat to secure the future of important colonial buildings in India such as the bungalow quarter of Edwin Luytens in New Delhi. She emphasized that the current conservation rules of the area, which is admired around the world for its layout and effective distribution of trees, should be retained in their entirety.

Kenzo Tange 1913-2005
Article Abstract:
Kenzo Tange born in the small city of Imabari, was inspired in the inter-war years to throw himself into architecture and his work blended Corbusian Modernism with an instinctive sympathy for Japanese traditions. He became internationally famous in the 1960s, with the completion of the twin arenas for the gymnasiums of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics.
