Excluder saves sea lions and seals
Article Abstract:
Sea lion excluder device (SLED) is designed to stop large marine mammals dying in trawls by Squid Fishery Management Co., which holds the patent on SLED design. The device consisting of a trawl grid that allows squid and hoki to pass through but other mammals like sea lions, fur seals and dolphins exit through an escape hatch. Still research is in progress to make refinements in the SLED.

Dolphin trials continue
Article Abstract:
Research agencies from Europe are developing fishing gear in France. These devices are for reducing bycatches. These equipments are also being installed on trawlers and tested. It is noted that the trawlers were able to catch the usual amount of fish without any dolphins.
