Gazprom, Rosneft each pursue deal to acquire Sibneft

OAO Gazprom and Rosneft, state-owned energy corporations are negotiating separately to acquire Sibneft. The possible acquisition is an indicator that Russian authorities are tightening their grip on the petroleum industry leaving little room for foreign investment.

Rosneft profit falls 55%
Article Abstract:
First-quarter net profit for Russian petroleum company Rosneft dropped by 55% to hit $358 mil, due primarily to a $332 mil charge against its tax debt. Revenue however rose 12% to reach $8.22 bil and production increased 8.9% to 1.65 mil barrels per day.
