Glaxo plans to trim jobs as profit falls

Third-quarter net profit for UK pharmaceutical firm GlaxoSmithKline PLC decreased 5.8% to 1.31 bil pounds sterling, while total sales dropped 2.9% to 5.48 bil pounds sterling. The company will take a 1.5 bil pounds sterling charge as part of a cost reduction strategy that will involve layoffs in research and development and its sales force.
