Nigeria has been under military rule for nine years, and plans to hold elections keep getting set back. Vote-buying and corruption among the 23 candidates for the December 1992 elections caused Pres Babangida to order the candidate selection process to begin anew.

Both candidates running in the 1993 Nicaraguan elections come from similar backgrounds and have similar political views. Both Bashir Tofa and Moshood Abiola are Muslim businessmen. Their parties were created by current president Ibrahim Babangida.

Ibrahim Babangida, the leader of Nigeria, plans to hold elections in six weeks despite the fact that the primary was discovered to be fixed. Babangida disbanded the existing political parties and replaced them with two moderate organizations.
