Germany's protective wings
Article Abstract:
German protection for the banking industry has given rise to two disputes. The first relates to subsidies for the Landesbanks, and the second to world rules on capital adequacy for banks. The Landesbanks have started to compete abroad, which has given rise to criticisms of unfair competition due to their subsidies. Meanwhile, there are moves to reform the Basle Accord on capital adequacy, but the reforms have been held up due to a disagreement between the US and Germany.
