Getting the point
Article Abstract:
British interest rates have been raised by 0.25% to 5.25% in Sep 1999 and this is linked to concern about the impact of house price rises, as well as other factors such as strong consumption, the tightness of the labor market, and global demand. The retail price index does not measure house price inflation, but spending on furniture, carpets and paint increases when house purchases rise. There are memories of problems created by the 1980s house price boom, and there is more concern about asset price inflation in Britain than in the US.
