Getting to grips with quality
Article Abstract:
Quality have become a key issue in the construction industry, but is still widely misunderstood and often confused with quality control. For the architect looking to give greater emphasis to quality, it is vital to strive towards quality as early as possible in the project. The architect should help the client to address vital pre-contract questions, such as the budget and the location of the site. If this is not possible, then the architect should at least take trouble to validate the brief from the client. Once the project is underway, the architect must keep in close contact with the contractors and never lose sight of the quality goal.

Article Abstract:
The housing, leisure, industrial and public sectors have all seen rises in new building orders, although new retail work has fallen. A survey shows that staffing levels in architectural practices have risen during the quarter, and the rise in architects's workloads is continuing. The number of practices working overseas has increased, with considerable expansion in the Middle East. The strongest performing region for new commissions is Midlands/East Anglia, and confidence is strong in most areas apart from Scotland and Northern Ireland.
