A new fast-food restaurant in London, England, which straddles a busy street known as the London Wall, has glass walls supported by a new cast-glass system. The Pizza Express restaurant has outlets on each side of the street, with mezzanine dining decks, glass entrances and facades. The walls are made of toughened, clear, single-glazed glass sheets and are 19 mt long and 5 mt high. Each glass sheet is secured by columns comprising stainless-steel rods to which are attached load-bearing cast-glass isolators, normally used in the electricity industry.

Medical intervention: this radical refurbishment of a campus postgraduate centre is emphasised by a curved steel roof and crisp glazed facades
Article Abstract:
The original postgraduate multi-disciplinary education centre on the campus of the Queen's Medical Centre was built in 1971, designed as a sports and social centre. Many inherent shortcomings in the building were improved by a fundamental re-working within the original footprint. Internally the layout provides seminar rooms, recreation room, a refectory and social space. The original flat roof retained its beams, which now support curved roof profiles.
