GlaxoSmithKline starts human testing of two bird-flu vaccines

Vaccines are being developed for the H5N1 strain of avian influenza by GlaxoSmithKline PLC of the United Kingdom. Human testing has begun on two potential vaccines and it is hoped to have a vaccine in production by the beginning of 2007. 105 people have been killed by the virus in the past two years and health officials are worried about a possible pandemic.

Glaxo announces breakthroug on bird-flu vaccine; net rises

GlaxoSmithKline PLC of the United Kingdom has perfected an avian influenza vaccine that will be ready for market by the end of 2006. The pharmaceutical company posted a 14 percent net profit increase for the second quarter to 1.32 billion Pounds ($2.43 billion) from 1.16 billion Pounds last year.
