Goin' fission
Article Abstract:
There is concern about electric power supply in Brazil where demand is rising as a result of economic growth, but hydroelectric dams have been hit by low rainfall. Eletrobras plans a third nuclear power station, and is opening its second in early 2000. Hydroelectric dams account for over 90% of Brazilian electricity. Nuclear power can use local resources, since Brazil has uranium reserves. There is a problem with the high cost of generating electricity using nuclear power.
