Gold comfort
Article Abstract:
The price of gold has strengthened following the decision of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) not to go ahead with planned gold sales, and of European central banks to halt large scale gold sales for five years. Gold producers have seen a higher price rise than have gold prices. The IMF is to use an accounting exercise to raise funds for a plan for debt relief for poorer countries. The US will forigive bilateral debt from the poorest countries, so long as Congress approves the request for funds.
