There were positive and negative developments in world trade in 1992. General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade talks stalled as developed countries initiated regional trade agreements. Global recession fueled protectionism while Third World liberalization encouraged free trade.

Feeding mother: Taiwan and China
Article Abstract:
Taiwan may introduce a 'free-trade zone' and allow direct shipping links to China in order to boost its economy. If such reforms go well, Taiwan could replace Hong Kong as the link between Western business and China. Hong Kong's relations with China are also discussed.
