The UK management buyout industry provided backing for deals worth a total of 6.77 billion pounds sterling in 1996. The merger and acquisition market continues to be strong, encouraged by the need for companies to refocus on core activities. A survey of top UK companies investigating their activities from 1992 and their plans to 2001 reveals that most companies are disposing of non-core activities, resulting in more buy-out and buy-in deals.
