China makes concessions
Article Abstract:
China has consented to ease government controls on its market in a bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), and also pledged to give Chinese firms the right to directly trade with foreign firms. China urgently wants to join WTO so it can gain greater unbridled admission to world markets. According to US negotiators, it remains unclear whether China will be allowed to enter the WTO by the end of 1997.
