Grey integer programming: an application to waste management planning under uncertainty
Article Abstract:
The use of grey integer programming in waste flow allocation and in planning the expansion of a solid waste management facility is considered. The approach, which integrates the concepts of grey systems and grey decisions into a mixed integer linear programming framework, minimizes computational complexity and captures uncertainty in the optimization process. It results in binary variable solutions which offer several alternatives for facility development and continuous variable solutions which optimize waste flow allocation.

Logic applied to integer programming and integer programming applied to logic
Article Abstract:
Logic, artificial intelligence and mathematical linear and integer programming (IP) have cross connections in technique and applications. Although mathematical programming has developed practically independently of logic and AI, IP has algorithmic applications and modelling functions with the methods of logic. A beta-resolution has been developed that integrates IP's logical representations but does not yield commercial algorithms.

The design of a 0-1 integer optimizer and its application in the Carmen system
Article Abstract:
An optimization algorithm for solving large zero-one integer programming problems has been applied to Carmen Systems AB's Automatic Pairing Construction system for airline crew scheduling. The optimizer yields solutions of similar quality to other methods based on linear programming and branch and bound procedures. In addition, its use has enabled several European airlines to realize significant productivity increases.
