Iceland fund puts heat on AMR: money manager has frequent-flier plan in sights for spinoff

Icelandic investment firm FL Group is pressuring AMR Corp., the parent of American Airlines, to examine alternatives to improve the air carrier's stock, which has dropped by nearly half since the beginning of the year. Among its recommendations, FL Group, which has an 8.3% stake in the airline, has suggested the company spin off its frequent-flier program, which is valued at approximately $6 bil compared to AMR's market capitalization value of $5.4 bil.

EADS shares rated 'sell': Deutsche Bank note says airline industry will be weaker in '08

A Deutsche Bank report states that commercial jet aircraft orders are expected to decline in 2008, and therefore investors should consider selling their European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company EADS N.V. shares. The report also noted that the falling dollar lowers the value of the aircraft sold by EADS unit Airbus. EADS shares dropped 7.5% to 19.20.
