The US's new pro soccer league, Major League Soccer (MLS), debuted to a packed house on Apr 6, 1996, in San Jose, CA. The league's single-entity management structure should steer MLS clear of the financial troubles that plague other leagues. MLS officials plan to market US players as stars.
