Sharing the limelight
Article Abstract:
Mergers have become common among companies seeking to cut costs and increase their strength in the market, but this can create problems with rival management teams. Mergers and acquisitions can destroy value, and companies may pay too much for acquisitions. Mergers of equals can create value, and this is shown by a study by J.P. Morgan, but the bosses of the companies involved have to be able to cooperate. A supportive board of directors is important and this can help management succeed.
