Article Abstract:
The Liverpool, England, office of 3i has played a key role in the development of the Apples Car Clinics network. 3i invested 110,000 pounds sterling to purchase 25% of the equity of Apples, which was originally made up of only two car servicing centres, in 1991. It later provided mezzanine finance for a deal with Kwik-Fit, under which 45 former Shell sites were sold to Apples. Apples now has around 70 sites in the UK, and continues to expand.
