Guangzhou IPO is imminent

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is planning to apply for permission to list on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and is believed to be making a formal application to the China Securities Regulatory Comission for an initial public offering of approximately 300 million 'A' shares in 2001. In 2000, the company said it was looking to raise about 500 billion yuan from the share sale to fund a third of the estimated 14.7 billion yuan cost of the new airport, which is due for completion in 2003.

Pudong International opens
Article Abstract:
The new Shanghai Pudong International Airport, which was inaugurated on Sep 16, 1999, was finally opened for commercial traffic on Oct 1, 1999. It has a capacity of 20 million which should be insufficient if annual growth rates of up to 10% should continue. The Chinese government has mandated a gradual buildup of traffic involving domestic and international services from the Hongqiao International Airport.
