Single market, singular irony

Europe's single market may have been conceived by socialists, but Renault's recent closure of an auto plant in Belgium shows that European integration is a boon to the free market. The EU social chapter, which UK Euroskeptics fear, pales in comparison to the economic benefits of European integration.

Article Abstract:
A number of countries in Eastern and Central Europe have applied for European Union membership, though some of the established members are reluctant to allow them in. There are concerns that these nations, most of them considerably poorer, would put a significant strain on the EU budget.
