Guimard reassessed
Article Abstract:
A retrospective exhibition is being held of the work of French designer Hector Guimard. Guimard is best-known for his Art Nouveau Metro signs. The exhibition 'Guimard' at the Musee d'Orsay, Paris, France, shows his width of his interests. Guimard designed mass production items as well as individual interiors for large houses. One of his biggest projects was La Salle Humbert de Romans, a concert hall to seat 1500 people, which, despite its success, was demolished in 1912, three years after it was built. His mass production ironwork is found in many French cemeteries.

Reticent retrospective
Article Abstract:
The Design Museum in London, England, has a retrospective of the work of designer Eileen Gray. The exhibition is small, lacking work from the years up to 1920, and has no examples of her early lacquer furniture or rugs. Most of work displayed is furniture, although the newly-made furniture to her designs is fairly conventional and not altogether typical. Gray turned to architecture when she was middle-aged and a section of the exhibition shows some of the schemes she designed in her 60s, however, it leaves many questions about her designs unanswered.
