Gun law in Brazil
Article Abstract:
There have been 28 multiple shootings in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in the year to mid Jun 1999, and the authorities are seeking to tackle the problem of everyday violence through radical measures. The government proposes a ban on all firearms in private ownership, except for licensed security firms and the security forces. Gun sales have already been banned in Rio de Janeiro state. There are an estimated 20 million guns held by Brazilians, with some 1.5 million of these being registered.
