SEBI CUTS DAILY PRICE BAND
Article Abstract:
The daily price band or the circuit filter limit has been reduced from 10 percent to eight percent by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). It has also introduced a graded margin system instead of the weekly price cap. SEBI's moves are aimed at arresting the volatility in the Indian stock markets. The volatility margins will be effective from July 6, 1998, and will be applied to all positions in the cash and carry forward market. The margins will not be applicable to scrips trading below Rs40. The graded margin system allows a scrip to rise or fall in the range of 5-40 percent. (ag)
