Himatsingka Siede Ltd is one of the top five exporters of silk from India. It exports to Germany, Italy and other European countries. It has a turnover of Rs60 crore. The company is ISO 9002 certified production and export unit. The entire operations of the organisation were automated using 60 HP Vectra Intel Pentium based PC running on Microsoft Windows 95 operating system. Each operation from material procurement to marketing besides administration was computerised. It also boosted productivity by slashing the use of raw materials. Designs from the design department were produced at a faster rate with the aid of fast Intel based PCs and Nedgraphics software. (uh)

HIMATSINGKA TO PAY 35% INTERIM DIVIDEND

Himatsingka Seide Ltd has decided to pay an interim dividend of 35 percent on an equity capital of Rs9.55 crore for 1998-99. It posted a turnover of Rs38.14 crore in the first half of 1998-99 against Rs26.75 crore in the first half of 1997-98. Its net profit has increased by 20.18 percent to Rs13.22 crore against Rs11 crore. The company has posted a net profit of Rs8 crore on sales of Rs21.66 crore in the second quarter of 1998-99. It states that it has repaid loans of Rs17.32 crore between May and September 1998. (khr)

WIPRO MULLS SOFTWARE CENTRES IN EUROPE, JAPAN

The Wipro Infotech group is thinking of setting up software development centres in Europe and Japan to come closer to its customers. The group, which plans to set up development centres at multiple locations in Europe, says that it will fructify only in the next two years. It has recently set up a dedicated development centre for a bank in the US. Its development centre at Hyderabad currently does work for Japanese companies like Sony, Toshiba and Fujitsu. (khr)
