HIV drug induces immune response
Article Abstract:
Rhone-Poulenc SA announced that a vaccine for HIV that is being developed brought about immune responses in patients. The vaccine results were part of a Phase II trial. The results could open the door to large scale tests of the combination vaccine. According to Pasteur Merieux Connaught, a unit of Rhone-Poulenc, over 90% of vaccine-treated patients developed HIV antibodies. Approximately 33% of them developed anti-HIV immune cells.

Novartis cuts price of Coartem to help fight malaria in Africa
Article Abstract:
Novartis AG of Switzerland has reduce the cost of the malaria drug Coartem by approximately 1/3, from $1.57 to $1.00 per treatment. The price cut comes to aid Africa and reduce deaths from malaria. In Africa between one million to 2.7 million people die from malaria per year, including infants and children under the age of two.
