HLL TAKES DIRECT ROUTE IN HUNT FOR BIG VOLUME

Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) has prepared 2 blueprints - Operation Bharat and Operation Streamline - to increase its market penetration and develop initiatives. Operation Streamline proposes to increase the market penetration of Hindustan Lever Ltd to 1 lakh villages from 50,000 villages. Hindustan Lever Ltd will be able to enter the villages that have population of less than 1,000 people. This initiative will also shift the distribution hub to village stockists from the ones in small towns. Operation Bharat proposes to popularise the personal products of Hindustan Lever Ltd. This initiative is aimed at 22 million households across 12 States of India. It will also try to reach towns and villages having a population of 2,000-5,000. Hindustan Lever Ltd proposes to raise the number of retailers to 1.5 million from 1 million. It also proposes to sell its own products through e-commerce. It plans to use a multi-level direct marketing strategy to sell the premium range of products of Unilever, its parent. (ag)

BAYER INDIA EYES Rs2001-Cr TURNOVER BY 2001
Article Abstract:
The Indian companies of the Bayer group of Germany plan to achieve a sales of Rs2001 crore by the year 2001. The Bayer group includes Bayer India, Bayer Diagnostics, Bayer Sanmar, Bayer India Syntans, Bayer ABS and Bayer Zydus. The group companies plan to raise their sales by 21 percent per annum until 2001 AD. They plan to post sales of Rs1,100 crore in 1998, Rs1,360 crore in 1999, Rs1,650 crore in 2000 and Rs2001 crore in 2001 AD. The group has plans of investing 200 million Duesch Marks (DM) in a dry rubber production unit. This unit will have a capacity between 50,000-100,000 tonnes per annum. (ag)

RIL RANKED 49 IN CHEMICAL CO WORLD RANKINGS

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has been ranked 49 in the Chemical and Engineering News of the American Chemical Society (C&EN) Global Top 50 chemical producers list. The list containers top chemical companies of the world ranked according to their chemical sales in dollar terms in the financial year. RIL has got the third rank in terms of operating profit margin and capital spending as a percentage of chemical sales and a overall ranking of 49. (gsh)
