BPL TO QUIT OYE, FOCUS ON CRICKET SPONSORSHIPS

BPL Ltd (BPL) has decided to stop sponsoring the BPL Oye, the Hindi film song countdown show on Channel V television, from January 1999. It plans to sponsor cricket-related programmes on television. It has launched Player-of-the-Week programme for international cricketers and has spent Rs2.56 crore. It is to present each player of the week with $500. BPL Ltd plans to spend Rs120 crore on advertising and promotion in 1999 against Rs110 crore in 1998. (rk/kvr)

ASTRA IDL POSTS MARGINAL DIP IN THIRD QUARTER NET PROFIT

Astra-IDL Limited has reported decline of 1.32 percent in net profit to Rs2.34 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 1998 (compared to Rs2.38 crore for third quarter ended December 31, 1997). Its sales increased to Rs26.10 crore (Rs24.17 crore). It posted net profit of Rs6.71 crore on sales of Rs69.32 crore for the first nine months of 1998-99. (rk)(psr)
