Article Abstract:

Finland's Hackman will sell their Havi candles and household plastics operations. The prices are kept secret. Havi candles will be bought by Swedish decorative product manufacturer Duni. The company's annual turnover is approx. FIM 3.5bn (USD 0.6bn) and it employs 4.200 people in 21 different countries. Duni is a part of the Swedish Bonnier Group . The turnover of Havi candles is FIM 76mn and it employs 60 people. Hackman will sell their unprofitable household plastics operations to Swedish Plastumgruppen. The products to be sold include the brand names Hammar/Sarvis. The deal involves Hackman purchasing 20% of Plastumgruppen's shares. Plastumgruppen will become the largest plastic dish producer in the Nordic countries. The present turnover of the company is FIM 41mn, whereas the turnover of Hackman's plastic operations is FIM 184mn, employing 260 people. The operations of both sold companies will continue as before. According to Hackman MD Tapio Hintikka, the branches of the company will become more clear. The remaining branches will be developed as their own, separate entities.

The Finnish PC-SuperStore and Mikrolog will merge. The first one sells IT to consumers and small and medium-sized companies and the latter manufactures Osborne computers and sells to major customers. The companies will swap shares after which both will own shares of PC-SuperStore Group. Mikrolog will become a subsidiary of PC-SuperStore. The turnover of the Group is estimated to be Fmk 700mn (US$ 128mn) in 1998. PC-SuperStore wanted to become a major company.

Finnish Saunatec will buy the entire business operations of the American Nasscor . Nasscor's main products are vaporizers. The company's turnover amounted to approx. Fmk 50mn (US$ 9mn) in 1997. With the deal Saunatec will become the largest vapour bath generator manufacturer in the world. The purchase price is not given in the article.
