Hail to the mighty pound

The British pound is at its highest level in many years, as it has recovered greatly since being pulled out of the European exchange rate mechanism in 1992. There are questions though as to how this will affect the British economy, which recovered strongly in recent years while the pound was down.

The Tories' strong victory in the recent British elections seem to have had a very positive effect on the British pound. For the first time since it became part of the Community's exchange-rate mechanism, the pound is in a stronger position than the German D-mark.
