Hate the sin, hate the sinner
Article Abstract:
Universal Pictures has dropped a movie called 'Happiness' by Todd Solondz, which deals with the lives of three sisters and includes an episode of paedophilia. The issue is too controversial for Universal to tackle, and Good Machine is to release the movie, which has been praised by critics. The issue is not clearly related to creative independence since Universal would face long-term hostility from campaigners representing family values. The movie will not reach as large an audience as Universal could have achieved, but it will still reach the public.

Article Abstract:
There has been a rise in the number of independent movies, and marketing and distribution of these movies is sometimes being carried out in unorthdox ways. 'The Big Tease', which focuses on a hairdresser, has been shown to hairdressers in the hope that they will tell their clients about the movie. Independents cannot match the large sums used by big studios to market their movies, so they may focus on a particular group that they see as likely to enjoy a specific movie. The internet is also being developed as a way of marketing movies.
