Article Abstract:
Frederick Gibberd Partnership has refurbished a 1920s building in Bloomsbury Way for BUPA, the health insurer. The building was to be upgraded creating extra office floorspace and creating an appropriate new entrance. All existing stairs and lifts were scrapped with vertical circulation and service ducting located within a new central core in the existing lightwell. The central core is lined in beech-veneered panels and much of the 1981 steelwork was removed, with new column free floors suspended from castellated beams. The new layout incorporates a double height observatory coffee lounge.
