Article Abstract:
Coca-Cola Inc. is launching efforts to make the most of its role as one of the 12 leading sponsors of the World Cup '98 in France. According to Charles B. Fruit, Coca-Cola spent the months before France '98 organizing a number of programs intended to take advantage of the popularity of the World Cup by providing fans and customers with the opportunity to take part. For instance, the company brought the World Cup trophy around the world so fans in Nigeria, for example, can watch it parade with the national team. Coca-Cola has extended its agreement with FIFA, the world governing body of soccer, through 2006. It is the only company to have signed on as a sponsor for the next two World Cups.
