Help with working in Europe
Article Abstract:
European Economic Interest Groupings (EEIGs), established by the European Community in 1989, can be very useful to architectural practices looking to undertake joint projects with European counterparts. They allow the partners to retain legal and economic independence while bringing their resources together for joint scheme, and need only an organisational framework made up of a college of members and managers. Such schemes have only attracted a few UK architectural practices so far, however, but it is likely that more will start to broaden their horizons.

Learning through design
Article Abstract:
The UK Design Council has utilized important lessons learnt during the construction of a new school in Essex to help improve the way design teams work together in the future. The Great Notley School construction project showed how well a multi-disciplined taskforce could work as a team to ensure high standards were met throughout the wide range of work groups. Future school building projects will be helped by the study.

How architects can gain control of the process
Article Abstract:
Architects often feel that design and build is equivalent to poor quality, therefore architect-led design and build appears an attractive option, but can present risks. A London based company undertakes design-led design and build and it believes that architect-led design and build gives design control and allows the maintenance of cost and quality control.
