Bearer of the torch
Article Abstract:
Ten years after he joined the rebel uprising that overthrew Ferdinand Marcos, President Fidel Ramos sees several crucial developments now past or in progress. He divides his six-year term into two-year segments concerning economic turnaround, social-reform programs, and electoral reforms. Among his chief concerns is nurturing a multiparty rather than two-party system. While terrorism is an important concern, he considers businessmen worried about kidnappings to be only motivated by their bottom line.

Inscrutable winner: Ramos denies he will be just another Cory
Article Abstract:
An interview with Philippine presidential candidate Fidel V. Ramos is presented. Election returns are still being counted, but Ramos is already showing signs of being the winner. Ramos says his candidacy equated stability and continuity of policies for the business community. Also, Cory Aquino's popularity in the countryside has been underestimated by his opponents and these two factors partly explain his lead. Ramos says his priority after he becomes president is national unification.
