Henkel, is a lesser known multinational corporation originating from Germany with plans to build business operations in China that will rival some of the largest multinationals in the region. Henkel has planned to invest about $200 million in the area and win market shares in the consumer market and industrial sector by competing against local companies.

In an effort to reduce the loss of state owned enterprises (SOE's), China is merging SOE's to limit domestic competition and create strength against foreign multinational corporations. Foreign investors considering merging with SOE's must consider the benefits of restructuring vs. chooses to keep only it's strongest assets.

German centre shifts east

Smaller and medium-sized German companies are trying to establish a presence in China by establishing Shanghai as it business center. Businesses are attracted to the areas central location, transportation connections and low overhead. The Shanghai German Center is the first of a network of German Centers across Asia.
