Article Abstract:
Foreign multinationals have emphasised their commitment to Asian markets and their continued investments in the region. They argue that they are unlike financial investors such as hedge funds, and the character of their direct investments means that they have closer ties to the region. Foreign companies have supplied technology and capital, and also offer greater transparency, so they should be subject to less discrimination. Asian governments also need to attract other types of investor to promote economic growth.
