The maximum-capture hierarchical location problem

Article Abstract:

A 0-1 integer programming model for location decision problems is presented. The model maximizes population capture from a competitor located within the same vicinity. Based on calculations, a large proportion of the population can be lured from competitors in most areas, even when the latter optimizes their locations by utilizing a p-median model. The model allows the location of new servers and the relocation of existing servers.

Location of hubs in a competitive environment

Article Abstract:

A model was developed to locate hubs or transshipment points in a competitive environment. The model, which is deemed suitable for air cargo and air passenger transportation, is aimed at optimizing the reduction of current cost while increasing the volume of traffic transported between a specific origin and a particular destination. The model enables one pair of origin-destination flow to pass through one or two hubs while allowing every demand point to be assigned to more than one hub. The assignment, however, depends on the destination of the traffic.
