Holland-Gem se soll sterreich erobern
Article Abstract:
The Greenery International which was set up to market the products of about 55% of the Netherlands' market gardens, aims to regain lost ground on the Austrian market. Between 1993 and 1997 Austria's imports of Dutch vegetables dropped by almost 50% to 16,000 tonnes. Meanwhile, imports from Spain grew by 75% to 51,000 tonnes. Austria's imports of Dutch tomatoes dwindled from 15,000 tonnes to 2,000 tonnes per year. The market share of Dutch vegetables in Austria has fallen from 22% in 1995 to about 13%. The Greenery's managing director for the German region explains the fall of exports with quality deficits due to mass production and with inflexible pricing and delivery terms. The Greenery aims to raise the imports of Dutch vegetables to Austria to Sch 2.5bn within 4 years from Sch 1.5bn annually at present. The combined turnover of Dutch fruit and vegetable growers has fallen by about 17% in the past 7 years to about Sch 17.5bn annually.
