DENMARK: SUCCESSFUL EXPORT DRIVE
Article Abstract:
Bornholms Andelsmejeri, a dairy company, has been successful in its export efforts and 81% of the production is sold on the European, North and South American and Japanese markets as well as in the Middle East. The dairy company, however, has problems with raw material supplies i.e. milk. Despite the fact that it pays the highest price for milk in Denmark it has to import 10 million litres of milk from Sweden. Its milk purchase volumes in Denmark amount to 40 million litres. The company will export through its export company St. Clemens that in addition to Bornholms Andelsmejeri's exports of 3,500 tons of cheese even handles 3,000 tons of other European cheese. Bornholms Anderlsmejeri's products include among other things blue cheese that has won several prizes.

Denmark: Danisco to focus on cultures for dairy market
Article Abstract:
The Danisco group aims to boost its share of the global market for dairy cultures and according to Danisco manager Leif Kjaergaard, the group's target is to become the largest company in the global market for cultures to the dairy industry. The company has speeded up its operations in this area by making a considerable investment in a new facility in Niebull to the south of the Danish-German border. Danisco's focus on this market means tighter competition for Chr Hansen that until now has been the only Danish player on the global market. Both parties reject rumours about entering into co-operation in the market. The market for cultures to the dairy industry is currently valued at US$2.1bn but the potential market is almost US$6bn, according to the paper.
